Senior User Interaction Designer (2008 – Present) Mzinga Burlington, MA

  • Mzinga provides software that allows client companies to build and manage their online communities.
  • Primary responsibilities include improving usability in existing service offerings and designing the user interaction for a productized community package.
  • Redesigned forums.
    • Improved usability by displaying only relevant actions, encouraging users to add more content by removing barriers to posting, and fixing navigation so that users no longer feel “lost.”
    • Created novel and intuitive pagination system for tracking unread pages within a thread.
    • Improved visual design.
  • Designed admin interface for productized package.
    • Removed/hid options that did not impact end user experience, streamlined the rest (from 250 to about 25), made the layout intuitive, and set sensible defaults whenever possible.
  • Designed Social Intelligence Analytics.
    • Designed collection of reports and interfaces that make millions of numbers accessible to non-statisticians. Packaged community statistics into a simple visual shape that conveys the personality/DNA of a community at a glance.
  • Currently designing an enterprise wiki product.

User Interface Designer (2007 – 2008)  Cisco WebEx Burlington, MA

  • Created comprehensive functional and user interface specification documents for complete products. (Specifications completed: To Do, Tagging Component, Calendar)
  • Designed and delivered information architecture and visual layer of each product.
  • Produced wire frames, screen flows, and high fidelity mockups.
  • Gathered feedback from development and design team and maintained specification documents as the projects progress.
  • Provided support, including competitive analysis, to product management in pitching new product ideas.

Gevity Project: Part of a global distributed team to build a web portal for over 8,000 small- and medium-sized client businesses with user base of over 100,000 client employees for mid-sized HR company.

  • Gathered requirements from end users and drove communication with clients for design closure.
  • Managed relationships and communication across multidisciplinary teams and with clients.
  • Designed protocol and developed prototype for single sign-on integration with Salesforce.com.
  • Led Usability Testing sessions with end users.
